The document describes all necessary steps to load UMS inks into a new XpertJet printer.
Please follow the procedure below in order to correctly install our UMS inks.
Required Items
- Firmware + MSA 5 tool (or higher)
- Spitting box absorbent for UMS ink: “VJ16STG-FB-W3”
- Cleaning & Ink for XpertJet
- MS41 300 ml cleaning packs (MS41-CL300E)

Important
Please make sure to order UMS ink packs for XpertJet and UMS maintenance cleaning fluid separately!
- MS41 300 ml cleaning packs (MS41-CL300E)
How to proceed?
- Boot the new printer in "Board Manager Mode" and update the firmware with the MSA 5.0 tool (or higher)
(do NOT use the MSM - Mutoh Status Monitor: this will not work here)- “XPJ1641SR_V102.JFL” for XPJ1641SR
- “XPJ1682SR_V103.JFL” for XPJ1682SR
WARNING
If you do not use these firmware-versions (or higher) the boot up cycle of the printer with UMS ink will fail!!
- Install the wiper and exchange the spitting box absorbent with a spitting box absorbent for UMS ink:
"VJ16STG-FB-W3" - Boot the printer in user mode, enter the initial settings (language, IP address, activation, etc...)
- Start the ink charge and perform initial cleaning


Unpack and insert the MS41 300ml Cleaning packs and MS41 cleaning smart cards
Use the MS41 cleaner 300 ml smart chips to perform the wash cycle. One wash cycle is ok.

With the former Firmware version at this stage, UMS cleaning smart chips were needed. With these new released versions these are no longer needed and you must use the MS41 smart chips delivered wit the MS41 cleaning bags.The display will show: "Wash Retry?" -> Choose No
Insert the UMS ink packs in the ink cases, install them in the printer and insert the UMS smart chips
Start an "Ink Charge" with the UMS inks.

Important!
Please ensure that the machine owner / end-user gets a copy of the Regular Maintenance Document and that he has UMS cleaning fluid available to carry out the regular maintenance (RJ80UMS-100-CLN).
