Necessary tools
In order to be able to install firmware, the following tools are required:
- Personal computer with MS Windows
- Network cable to connect the XpertJet with the pc
- The latest MSA-tool (Mutoh Service Assistance) or MSM-tool (Mutoh Status Monitor)
Detailed instructions how to install the firmware, are described in the maintenance manual.
The latest current firmware can be downloaded below this article.
Current version 1.12
** Make sure when updating to F/W Main Ver1.12 or higher to use MSA tool Ver.6.0.6 higher.
Bug fix:
- Backup parameters may not be saved to non-volatile memory after ink charge.
- When printing data created with Fiery's RIP, missing dots and misaligned printing of specific colors occur.
- When printing with only the user definition changed in the VerteLith printer options, the following issues occur:
- The media thickness setting remains the same as before the user definition change.
Changes:
- The system will be changed to keep the power on so that the power does not turn off for long periods of time.
The power button will switch the device to sleep mode and return it to sleep mode, and power off will be done from the Settings > Power Off menu. See TIB 877. - If no printing operation is performed for the set time, the printer will automatically enter sleep mode.
In the Sleep Mode menu, select "Auto Sleep Timer" to set the time until the printer enters sleep mode from 4, 8, 12, or 24 hours. (Default: 4 hours) - The default values for "auto cleaning" and "cleaning during sleep mode" will be changed.
- Autocleaning (Standby) ==> CL Type : Spitting -> Spitting (Even if it was set to something other than Spitting before the update, it will be changed to Spitting after the update.)
Waiting Time : 360min (MS31), 120min (MS51) - Sleep Mode ==> CL type : Spitting -> Short CL
Cleaning Timer : 3H -> 7days (MS31), 3days (MS51)
- Autocleaning (Standby) ==> CL Type : Spitting -> Spitting (Even if it was set to something other than Spitting before the update, it will be changed to Spitting after the update.)
- The behavior after waking up from sleep mode will change (MS51only):
When waking up from sleep mode, if more than 120 minutes have passed since the most recent cleaning, cleaning will be performed.
The cleaning type performed will be the cleaning type set in sleep mode. However, if spitting is set, short cleaning will be performed. - If auto cleaning cannot be performed due to the cover being open or some other error, the print head nozzles may become clogged.
To prevent a long period of time from passing without being able to perform maintenance operations such as auto cleaning, the printer will display an error message and beep to notify the user. - If the power was left on for 24 hours, backup parameters, including the "Printer Usage" log, were sometimes not recorded in memory. Backup parameters are now recorded in memory on a 24-hour cycle.
- In the previous version 1.11, "Cancel while Longstore is in progress" was supported.
A function was implemented to transition the panel display to a higher level when the "<" key is pressed. However, on models equipped with a single-row panel, the panel display is not designed to transition to a higher level when the "<" key is pressed. The "<" key is disabled while Longstore is in progress.
1.11
** Make sure when updating to F/W Main Ver1.11 or higher to use MSA tool Ver.6.0.5 higher.
Bug fix:
- A CPU error occurs when connecting to a PC with antivirus software (AVG AntiVirus) installed.
- When "Check Color" is displayed when the power is turned on, "Ink End" will not be displayed even if the ink end sensor is detected.
- Cleaning can sometimes not be performed from the remote panel.
- When an ink-related error occurs, the "soak cleaning" process starts, and the panel becomes inoperable during the process.
- When printing with "User Type > Adjust Print", if the following error message appears, the Cancel key does not clear the message.
- [**]S/C Recog. E"
Changes:
- Previously, once "Longstore" was executed, it was not possible to cancel it while it was in progress. Now it can be canceled up until the cleaning cartridge is inserted.
- When using a high capacity ink pack adapter, if the machine shakes while printing, the adapter will also shake, causing a writing error to the smart chip and printing to stop.
The amount of ink used is not written to the smart chip while printing is in progress. This has been changed so that it is written when printing is completed. - Change the status display on MSM during soak cleaning from "Cleaning" to "Soak cleaning".
- When using the high capacity ink pack adapter, the "Check Ink" message appears even if there is sufficient ink remaining in the ink pack.
The threshold at which the "Check Ink" message appears has been changed to an appropriate value. - If the ink bag is removed without removing the large-capacity pack adapter while stirring the ink, the ink end detection flag will react and the ink is out flag will be set.
Only when the printer is in standby mode and not consuming ink, if the ink pack is removed, "Check ink" will be displayed to prompt the user to check the cartridge status.
New:
- The ink switching log now records not only when ink is switched, but also when the user mode, self-diagnosis long-term storage, and ink filling are recorded.
Self-diagnosis: History: How to display in the ink switching log.
User mode: Initial charge "UC", Longstore "UW"
Self-diagnosis mode: Initial charge "CH", Longstore/Ink discharge "LO"
Installed Ver 1.11 Serial number:
XPJ-1341SR-P : KD5U001111~
1.10
Bug fixes:
- When performing Bi-D printing with "CR Print Shifting Width" set to "Media", the CR may not scan to the edge of the media and may wrap around at the edge of the printing data.
Changes:
- When the media detection setting is "OFF", media cutting is not possible, so when cutting is performed (long press of ENTER), "Media detection OFF" is displayed.
- The words on the panel in the soak cleaning menu were slightly different from other models, so they were changed to be the same as the other models.
Installed Ver 1.10 Serial number:
XPJ-1341SR-P : KD5U001068 ~
1.09
Bug fix:
There was a problem with the "head soak" cleaning cycle that was added in the previous version.
- When performing the soak cleaning process while a media error (e.g. no media) is displayed, the carriage moves to the left and then immediately returns to the cap-in position.
- When pressing Enter with the cleaning solution filled into the cap, the soak time is entered after cap-in, but the process of sucking up the cleaning solution occurs when the cap is in. This means that the cleaning solution inside the cap is drained and the print head is not soaked.
- When entering the soak time, if the set time is not confirmed, the process does not move to the next step. At this time the cap is in a soaking state, but because the soaking time is not being counted, it is not recorded in the log.
Installed Ver 1.09 Serial number:
XPJ-1341SR-P : KD5U000933~
Release date: 04 June 2024
1.08
** Updating to F/W Main Ver1.08 or higher requires using MSA tool Ver.5.1.2.0 (or higher)
Changes
1. When "color check" is displayed the error LED will now be lit.
2. Added a "head soak" procedure in user mode (Menu 12: Soak clenaing)
This procedure can be used to soak the head in the cap when nozzles remain misfiring or missed.

Bug fixes
1. Internal patterns were printed using the overwrite count and overwrite weight settings.
Change the internal pattern to be printed without overwriting.
Installed Ver 1.08 Serial number:
XPJ-1341SR-P : KD5U000842~
1.07
** Updating to F/W Main Ver1.07 or higher requires using MSA tool Ver.5.1.2.0 (or higher)
Changes
1. Acceleration of the paper feed during printing can be changed
This is a useful feature if slippery media is used.
New setting (Self-diagnosis mode>Parameter>Update>PF Acc.)
"Normal": Default
"Low": Low acceleration
*Note the impact on throughput.
2. Added patterns for head slant adjustment.
These patterns may improve the accuracy of head tilt adjustment and improve the print quality.
New patterns (Self-diagnosis mode>Adjustment>Head Slant)
* Slant V-1
* Slant V-2
A high magnification loupe(x200~x400 e.g. Digital loupe) is required for adjustments with these patterns.
Bug fixes
1. When performing "Adjustment print" using the remote panel function of the MUTOH Status Monitor(MSM), the value displayed in the Rough Pattern adjustment value input menu was the center value of "11" and the maximum value of "21".
Fixed the change so that the center value is "6" and the maximum value is "11", just like the machine.
2. When the chip terminal short circuit occurs due to the misalignment of the card attachment position, the chip recovery may not function and an I/C error may occur.
Fixed chip recovery to work even in such cases.
3. When printing with Caldera Rip, the CR speed is sometimes slow (about 240 cps), and sometimes abnormal printing occurs. This was aused by an out-of-specification parameter used in the PM command.
Fixed to replace with the parameters within the specification and process it when the parameter out of the specification is received.
Installed Ver 1.07 Serial number:
XPJ-1341SR-P : KD5U000609~
1.06
** Updating to F/W Main Ver1.06 or higher requires using MSA tool Ver.5.1.2.0 (or higher)
Changes
1. Support for MS51 ink type.
Attention points:
* Start-up cleaning liquid remains VJ-MS31-CL220E: see "how to start a XPJ-1341SR-P with MS51"
* When using MS51 ink and the VSD3 waveform is selected then printing is restricted to PG = LOW.
* Every 7 days a maintenance prompt message will be displayed to perform weekly maintenance.
2. "Automatic print settings" has been added to the remaining roll management in order to streamline operations up to barcode printing for remaining roll paper management.
* When "Auto print settings" is set to ON then "Do you want to print the remaining amount?" is displayed after cutting the media. If "Yes" is selected then the barcode is printed after media cutting.
3. Added a setting to periodically spit (to maintain good nozzle status).
"Spitting" is added in the menu "Auto cleaning > Standby". Default value is set on spitting every 180 minutes.
4. Added new effects:
- i-Screen7 / *EF45
- i-Screen8 / *EF46
- i-Screen9 / *EF47
- i-Screen Fine L / *EF63
- i-Screen Fine M / *EF64
- i-Screen Fine H / *EF65
Bug fixes
1. Head rank input method selection menu (auto/manual) is not displayed in Self diagnosis > Head replace menu.
This is now fixed.
2. When the *IP4 command is output in bi-directional printing in 600x900dpi mode, the image shifts and appears double.
This is now fixed.
3. The vacuum fan continued to work in standby mode.
In power saving mode, fixed to stop the suction fan when standby heat times out.
Installed Ver 1.06 Serial number:
XPJ-1341SR-P : KD5U000483~
1.05
** Updating to F/W Main Ver1.05 or higher requires using MSA tool Ver.5.1.1.0 (or higher)
** Ver1.03 and Ver1.04 have not been released.
Changes
1. Support for UMS11 ink type.
Since UMS ink requires daily maintenance following message will be prompted at certain interval: "Perform CR Maintenance". In this case go to the Menu "CR Maintenance" and start the cycle.
By pressing the Down key during CR maintenance the cap suction cycle will start. Pushing this key again will stop the suction.
Important INFO:
Incorporated V1.05 boundaries to use UMS ink on XPJ-1341SR-P
- UMS jetting is implemented for head height ‘Middle’ only.
Jetting for other head heights is not implemented.
To avoid operator mistake, FW 1.05 invites the operator to put the head height to Middle before it starts printing. The message "Change Head Gap Middle" will be prompted before printing.
This restriction only applies to normal printing in user Mode. Internal pattern printing (user mode) and any printing in Self-Diagnosis Mode will be performed with any head height setting.
- UMS jetting is implemented for the large drop family only (VSD1). VSD1 is used for all printing performed in User Mode and Self-Diagnosis Mode including internal pattern printing. No restrictions applied.
!! Do not forget to perform the Adjustments in Diagnostics mode for “VSD1” and head height “Middle” !!
Notes for Uni/BI Dir adjustment patterns:
- Adjustment pattern for VSD2/VSD3 is also printed with VSD1 (User Mode / Self Diagnosis Mode).
- If the adjustment pattern for PG LOW or HIGH is selected, the head height needs to be set to the selected head height (Self Diagnosis Mode)
Bug fixes
1. When the mini latch of the carriage lock is damaged and the carriage cannot be locked during the initial operation after power-on then the carriage continued to move left and right in the HOME position.
This is now fixed so that "E158 CR Lock Error" will be displayed after 2 attempts.
2. When "Page gap" is set to "Narrow" and "Output" is switched from "Take-up" to another setting then a "front interlace" will be executed when printing. This is now fixed.
3. When performing a head wash and the waste ink tank got full at a time when no cartridge was in the printer then the message "no cartridge" was incorrectly displayed. This is now fixed and will display "ink discharge" or "washing head".
Installed Ver 1.05 Serial number:
XPJ-1341SR-P : KD5U000407~
1.02
Bug fixes
1. There was an unexpected space between the reference line and the line to adjust, with the print pattern of "Adjustment printing> Custom> Confirmation printing" in user mode: this is now fixed.
2. A small size of character "A" is wrongly printed in the upper left of the print information, when printing "Adjust Print> Custom> RoughPtn. ALL" in user mode: this is now fixed.
3. The setting made from the panel with the menu of "Self-diagnosis> Parameters> Update> UniD/BiD", was not saved: this is now fixed.
* This error does not occur when adjusting with the "Adjustment> Uni / Bi" menu.
4. Even if the alert buzzer is set to off, pressing a key is requested when the ink near end or ink end condition comes: this is now fixed not to request it.
5. If the cancel key is pressed just before the printhead is capped in, all keys become invalid except the main switch: this is now fixed.
Changes
1. The life time of the pump becomes longer based on the result of an evaluation test: 5,000 counts -> 23,040 counts
2. The periodically displayed "Perform Adjust Print" message is no longer displayed.
3. The total operating time of the Auto UniD / BiD adjustment or Auto PF adjustment has been reduced as follows:
[Auto UniD / BiD] From 14:53 to 06:26
[Auto PF adjustment] From 01:22 to 00:56
4. Improved jetting wave form for Large (VSD1) and Middle (VSD2) drop families. Mist reduction when using MS31 in combination with the Middle and High head heights.
