Since introduction of the MS51 ink several sequential improvements have been implemented in the maintenance- and operational workflow of the MS51 printers .
Information on these topics has been distributed via technical mailings, explaining how to properly maintain these printers.
In the last few months, we have seen a favourable evolution and as such, we feel it is important that all MS51 users strictly follow the prescribed procedures.
Please find below an overview of the key steps in this process:
1. Weekly maintenance
Perform weekly maintenance as prescribed:
2. Head soak cleaning
This additional action was introduced in October 2024. To keep the nozzles open and to avoid misfiring nozzles, it is required to perform a head soak at the end of the weekly maintenance cycle: Head soak cleaning procedure
3. Sleep mode
- In September 2025, the recommendation to keep printers in Sleep mode was communicated (see TIB 876).
- In November 2025, new firmware was released introducing a revised “power-off” and “sleep mode” entry sequence. With this revision, operators can enter the required Sleep mode simply by pressing the main power button, without navigating through multiple menu levels. See TIB 877.
Firmware versions:
By using these versions, an additional benefit is introduced: printers that remain unused for a certain (selectable) period will automatically switch to Sleep mode.
We strongly advise all users of MS51 ink to upgrade their printers to these firmware versions to ensure proper maintenance and to keep the print heads in optimal condition.
Additional information:
Please note that firmware upgrades do not require travel to customer sites. Operators can perform the firmware update themselves using the MSM tool.
