TIB 876: Sleep mode & Maintenance Guidance for Printers using Mutoh MS51 ink

Modified on Thu, 13 Nov, 2025 at 4:37 PM

Dear Customer,

This bulletin provides important guidance for maintaining optimal performance of Mutoh printers using MS51 ink.

A number of customers using MS51 ink have reported misfiring of black and cyan nozzles after months or years of operation. These issues are typically visible during a nozzle check in Diagnostics Mode.

Analysis of RDI logs frequently shows that weekly maintenance procedures, including head soaking, are not being performed as prescribed.

1. Weekly Maintenance

To ensure long-term reliability and prevent nozzle clogging:

  • Perform the prescribed weekly maintenance, which includes a head soak.
  • Reference the maintenance procedures documented in our Knowledgebase:
  1. XPJ-1341SR-P
  2. XPJ-1641SR-P & XPJ-1682SR-P

2. Use of Sleep Mode

Mutoh Japan advises:

This prevents ink from drying in the nozzles during idle periods and helps maintain optimal print quality.

Please ensure that this information is communicated to all customers using MS51 ink. Consistent maintenance and proper Sleep Mode settings are essential to avoid long-term printhead issues.
