How to switch a XPJ-1641SR-P from MS41 or MS51 to UMS inks

Modified on Tue, 22 Nov, 2022 at 11:04 AM

IMPORTANT:  we advise you to pro-actively replace the ink pump (DH-40598) on field-units in order to ensure a good ink switch. In case the pump is not working 100% anymore the ink switch might result in missing nozzles after the switch. Extra ink charges might be necessary then to get all nozzles active.

1. Required items:

• FW V1.04 (or higher).

• MSA 5.0.9.0.

• Spitting box inlay: part number IJ-FLABS-01.

• Wiper: part number IJ-RWPS-01.

• MS41-CL300E cleaning packs (8 Pieces for the 2 cleaning cycles).

• UMS ink.

• new ink pump: part number DH-40598.

2. Procedure:

• Install the V1.04 (or higher) firmware. You can use MSA V5.0.9.0. or later.

• Power on the printer in User Mode

• Perform a nozzle check (in User mode) to document the current status of the print head.

• Power down the printer.

• Replace the pump to ensure a good ink switch!

• Start the printer in Self-Diagnosis mode.

• Reset the pump life time counter (>parameter>init.counter>pump).

• Empty the waste bottle.

• Perform a 'Longstore' (>Adjustment>Longstore) using NEW MS41 cleaning bags and NEW MS41 smart chips.

• Follow the instruction on the panel: Insert cleaning - Remove bags - ...

• When the procedure is finished, the panel shows "LONGSTORE".

• Power down the printer.

• Replace the spitting box inlay to IJ-FLABS-01.

• Replace the wiper.

• Empty the waste bottle.

• Power on the printer in User Mode.

• Display shows: 'INK charge - Start>Enter' , then Press <Enter>.

• Insert NEW MS41 cleaning bags and NEW MS41 smart chips.

• After the washing cycle, the display will show: "Wash Retry?". Choose No.

• Perform an 'ink charge' using UMS ink bags.

• Recalibrate the BI-D of the printer.

Important INFO:

Incorporated V1.03 boundaries to use UMS ink on XPJ-1641SR-P

  • UMS jetting is implemented for head height ‘LOW2’ only.
Jetting for other head heights is not implemented.
To avoid operator mistake, FW 1.03 invites the operator to put the head height to LOW2 before it starts printing. The printer will not print until the head height is set to the LOW2 position.

  • UMS jetting is implemented for the large drop family only (VSD1).
    VSD1 Drop masses: 3.7 ng (3.81 pl), 7.9 ng (8.14 pl) and 14.3 ng (14.74 pl).

!! Do not forget to perform the Adjustments in Diagnostics mode for “VSD1” and head height “LOW2” !!

Following 2 recommendations will avoid that evaporating liquid condensates onto the nozzle plate

  • We recommend using ‘Setup 16: Exhaust Fan : High’.
  • We recommend using 40°C as maximum temperature on the fixer heater (under the print heads).
